Tom Ford Velvet Orchid collection

I love the idea of a make-up extension line that is inspired by a perfume. There is a cohesiveness in the story line. And if make-up were part of the outfit that a woman slips on before a night out, the fragrance completes it. Tom Ford’s Velvet Orchid EDP was launched in 2014, to complement the house’s iconic Black Orchid EDP.   How the brand describes the scent: “An oriental floral that evolves the carnal grandeur and seductive power of the iconic Tom Ford Black Orchid into an uber-feminine fragrance lavished with notes of cool citrus, dramatic petals, suede accord, and vanilla. Rich, spicy, and intensely floral, it evokes a warm exotic garden. Notes: Orange Blossom, Hyacinth, Jonquil, Cattleya Leopoldii Orchid, Suede Accord, Vanilla Tincture. Lavish. Dramatic. Seductive.” What it smells like to me: Rich and sexy, sweet and musky; suede, relatively intense, warm and womanly. Like the perfume, the new make-up from the Velvet Orchid collection is encased in luxe and hefty, gold and purple packaging. The Velvet Bloom blush is a light pink mauve …

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist

Make Up For Ever is one of my all-time favourite make-up labels. Its high-performance products always deliver.  They are made for well, stage performances, and women who need their cosmetics to last through the day. I haven’t found another brand that can really rival MUFE’s ULTRA HD range which was created for actors, news anchors, beauty bloggers, selfie-lovers so they can look good infront of ultra high definition cameras (which are four times that of full high definition). And its waterproof Aqua range that professional synchronised swimmers swear by? One of the best in the market. French luxury conglomerate Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) knew what it was doing when it decided to buy over the brand from French make-up pro Dany Sanz in 1999. Dany, who founded the brand in her basement in 1984, is still the creative director of the brand. Hence, the continuous stream of fantastic products. Make Up For Ever’s latest offering is a range of 46  Artist Rouge Lipsticks. Why are they special? According the press release, a few factors set …

ColourPop liquid lipsticks

It’s been rumoured that Kylie Jenner’s popular liquid lipstick range is concocted in the same factory has ColourPop. We have no idea how true that is, but it piqued our interest in this cult but affordable cosmetics label. After roadtesting four of its shades, now we know what the hype is all about.  These really affordable lippies – from US$6 – give you the bang for your buck.  Just one single dip in the tube and coat gives lips an even, opaque colour. The shades are unique, subtly different, and one-of-a-kind. That is one thing you have to know about ColourPop shades.  Some like Tulle, look different when it is in the tube (a mauve-y pink) and when it is on your lips (much darker). And the colours look very different on individuals. So the swatches that you see online may not be as reliable.  ColourPop lippies, especially the liquid ones, are a bit like the Kinder Surprise of lipsticks. But perhaps that’s also why the brand is so fun, and popular. The Ultra Matte …

Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani

I’ll say it here. Urban Decay’s Lipstick collab with Gwen Stefani is to die for.  The colours are so rich, creamy, so pigmented, so gorgeous. Best lippies from UD so far. They are long-lasting, stain the lips evenly, and are opaque in one slick. But because they are so pigmented, they tend to bleed a little. It isn’t a big issue. But if you are particular, you may want to layer a complementary lip liner underneath.  I really like Spiderweb (a bright blue-red), Rocksteady (a dark red), and Firebird (a hot orchid fuchsia).

Laneige Two-tone Lip Bar

This is the most fun lipstick I have seen in awhile. Laneige’s new Two-tone Lip Bars let you have those ombre sunset effect lips in a jiffy. There are around ten shades available, and this one is obviously my fave. (Anything bright is my default choice.) I treated the colour of the picture above…so here is a more accurate depiction of this gorgeous shade called Neon Juice. It is reddish-orange and a pretty pink. With one slick, this is the effect you will get. If you want the brighter shade to be on the outside, and the lighter one on the inside, you just have to slick on the rectangular-shaped lipstick bullet accordingly. Run, and get it now.
