Beauty School: How to Apply Skincare

For those confused about the functions of the multitude of skincare products, and the multi-step beauty routine, here is the lowdown. First, the steps. Note that you don’t have to follow all the steps, just what works for you. For each step, only one product is necessary (except for cleansing because you need to get skin thoroughly clean). PM routine (steps 1 to 3 are most important): 1) Cleanse and exfoliate (makeup remover, foamy cleanser; scrub/ cleansing device depending on your needs) 2) Prepare skin for absorption (pre-serum/ essence/ beauty lotion/ emulsion) 3) Nourish (serum/ treatment/oil) 4) Hydrate (moisturiser/cream/oil) 5) Protect (sleeping mask) AM routine (steps 1 to 5 important) 1) Cleanse (a gentle one, like a water cleanser or cream cleanser) 2) Prepare skin for absorption (pre-serum/ essence/ beauty lotion/ emulsion) 3) Nourish (serum/ treatment/oil) 4) Hydrate (moisturiser/cream/oil) 5) Protect (sunscreen) 6) Makeup optional — Here’re some info on what the various products are for. Beauty School: How to Keep Skin Balanced

There are a few simple moves that I incorporate into my skincare routine to ensure that my skin is kept healthy. 1. Exfoliate. I give my skin a chance to show off its best side. So I religiously slough away the dead cells on the surface with a Clarisonic brush, and foaming cleanser. This allows my products to penetrate deeper. I do this before my night skincare routine as I do not have time in the morning. Tweak your routine to suit your lifestyle so you do not have to compromise on the important skincare steps. 2. Cleanse gently in the morning. While I use a foam cleanser at night to deep cleanse my skin of the day’s gunk, I use a water-based cleanser in the morning. I shower before I hit the bed, so my skin is not exposed to pollutants, and hence, not that filthy. By swiping my skin with a water cleanser soaked pad, I give it  a good wipe down to get rid of surface oils and overnight dead cell build-up …

Isshindo Honpo Animal Face Pack and Kabuki Face Pack

The Japanese pay attention to every detail of the packaging. I can’t read Japanese but I guess the wrapper is a sort of newsletter on the endangered pandas and tigers. —- The Kabuki Face Pack is a product of the Tokyo Midtown Award design competition. The contest showcases Japanese art and cultural tradition, as well as its expertise in beauty care. Similarly, the inside of the packaging is a newsletter with interesting nuggets of info on the art of Kabuki. Characters with red faces are good, while the blue and dark faces are evil. The blue and red strokes apparently highlights the facial muscles and veins in the human face. Collagen, camellia seed extract, tea leaf extract and satozakura flower extract infused in the mask keeps it moisturised and soft.
