Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist

Make Up For Ever is one of my all-time favourite make-up labels. Its high-performance products always deliver.  They are made for well, stage performances, and women who need their cosmetics to last through the day. I haven’t found another brand that can really rival MUFE’s ULTRA HD range which was created for actors, news anchors, beauty bloggers, selfie-lovers so they can look good infront of ultra high definition cameras (which are four times that of full high definition). And its waterproof Aqua range that professional synchronised swimmers swear by? One of the best in the market. French luxury conglomerate Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) knew what it was doing when it decided to buy over the brand from French make-up pro Dany Sanz in 1999. Dany, who founded the brand in her basement in 1984, is still the creative director of the brand. Hence, the continuous stream of fantastic products. Make Up For Ever’s latest offering is a range of 46  Artist Rouge Lipsticks. Why are they special? According the press release, a few factors set …

Louis Vuitton’s first fragrances in 70 years: Les Parfums Louis Vuitton collection

Luxury trunk-and-luggage maker Louis Vuitton created its first parfums – Je, Tu, Ii (I, You, He), and Eau De Voyage – in the 1920s. They were made to fill the beautiful crystal flacons that came with Louis Vuitton’s sturdy trunks. But the brand’s perfume ambitions were curtailed during the wartimes of the 1940s. Fast forward to 2016 Fall, Louis Vuitton will be introducing seven new scents under its Les Parfums collection. Just like the perfume houses of Chanel ( helmed by Olivier Pole, son of the legendary Jacques Polge), Dior (Francois Demachy), and Hermes (the very famous Jean-Claude Ellena), Louis Vuitton will have its own in-house perfumer. This ensures that its scents have an air of exclusivity and signature, that keep them distinct from the regular run-of-the-mill perfumes. Most of the juices from other luxury labels are usually made by the oft-nameless perfumers in the flavours and fragrance conglomerates such as Firmenich, Givaudan, and IFF. To re-embark on its olfactory journey, Louis Vuitton hired Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud. A native of Grasse – the age-old French capital of …

3D-Printed cosmetics is now a reality. So now what?

So the personal 3D make-up printer Mink will be launching this year. It allows you to select any colour that you want, found online or offline (just take a picture), and 3D-print it to make your own eyeshadow or lipstick. Judging from the prototype demo in promotional clips, 3D-printed make-up still seems like a pipe dream. The eyeshadow that was “3D-printed”- or essentially a pot of white eyeshadow dyed with the preferred shade – was far from pigmented. It pretty much looked like what you would get with children’s make-up, all chalky and with little colour pay-off. The perfect make-up formula, with just the right amount of pigment, texture, spread-ability, staying power and a reasonable shelf-life, takes hours in the lab, and millions of dollars to make. It is going to take a while (or maybe never) before a cheap, home 3D-printer can churn out your dream colour cosmetics in all its glorious perfection. That said, Mink is still indeed a disruptive invention.Who is not enticed by the idea of on-demand, customised make-up? But for now, the …

Trending: Red eyeshadow

So Chanel will be launching its Le Rouge collection in Fall.  And the star of the collection that anyone who is anyone on Insta is raving about:  That red shadow palette in the corner there.  So red smokey eyes are the next big thing… Or not? The most talented beauty vloggers/ make up artists out there have already been smoking up their peepers in rich scarlet, burgundy, wine and deep red-bronze for the last couple of months. And now, Chanel is hoping to make red eyeshadow mainstream while being edgy (this clever blend is its fail-safe success formula for its fashion line). Kirsten Dunst rocks the red powders in Chanel’s campaign pictures. The look is kept matte for maximum fierce-ness.  And how does everyone else wear red shadow?   With pressed flitter on top, maybe? Bright, bold, and on the edge?  And how does it look on Asian eyes?  Gorgeous when smoked out and lined with wispy burgundy-brown liner. And with a bit of shine. Add bold brows. How would you wear red shadow?

No makeup rules: Rainbow-coloured highlighter is trending

So. You’ve seen the black, blue, green, grey lipsticks. As well as the red, and peachy-pink eyeshadows, maroon eyeliner, blue mascara. They’re no longer considered shocking or out of the norm at a time when makeup junkies are experimenting with colours like crazy.  (Social media which lets just about anyone showcase their crazy face of makeup and garner likes, is definitely responsible for the trend.) Now, rainbow-coloured highlighter is driving this “no makeup rules” beauty trend to another level.  See for yourself: I love Jeffree Star for his personality and amazing makeup formula (his liquid lipsticks are really something else). And when he decided to roadtest the Bitter Lace Beauty rainbow highlighter (sold on Etsy) trend on his YouTube channel, he got a million views in two days.  Others wearing the rainbow cheek: Cover photo: Instagram/ @jkissamakeup I love makeup but I would never wear this. Because erm, it looks like a faded bruise to me. But I have a hunch that coloured highlighters that are beyond your regular gold, bronze, pinks and silvers, will …

Kat Von D launches in Sephora Singapore stores July

Earlier last month, we shared that Kat Von D might be coming to Singapore stores. Sephora Singapore has since confirmed the launch, and the American label will be hitting its stores in July, and on Sephora.sg. Prices start from S$31 for the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick to S$73 for the  Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette. At the launch preview held at Chijmes last week, Ms Von D made an appearance and shared her thoughts on the concept of beauty. How do you balance having a successful makeup line and your tattoo shop? I find a lot of joy and happiness in being able to create and making ideas come true in a tangible state where you can hold something in your hand. It is a really awesome thing. I don’t know what it is like to take a vacation, or work cause everyday is a dream. That is what happens when you love what you do. When did you first discover your love for make-up? I have always loved makeup, I …

Kat Von D Cosmetics soon available in Singapore?

A little bird told me. Actually, three little birds told me separately.  Like a true (former) journalist, I decided to share this bit of info after checking with three independent sources. Kate Von D, the queen of tattoos, eyeliner and lipstick, is purveying her line of cosmetics in the Little Red Dot.  Later this year. (April 27 update: Kat Von D confirms Southeast Asia launch. More details soon!) Her best-selling lipsticks and liners are always sold out. So, if you don’t know who she is and why you should care (especially when you are a beauty junkie), here’s some info for you to get up to speed. 1. She’s like burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese with her bold lipstick, wing-tipped liner, and bang-bang body. But with tattoos up to her face and neck.    2. The 34-year-old American tattoo artist shot to fame when she starred in the tattoo shop reality TV show Miami Ink in 2005. She has been pricking skin since she was 16.          3. Her make-up line is a manifestation …

Urban Decay and Ruby Rose

So, Urban Decay is working on its edge factor. It has appointed Australian model, DJ, actress, model as its new muse and brand ambassador. Rose is known for her gorgeous features, colourful tattoos, androgyny, and her devil-may-care attitude. “Urban Decay believes in supporting individuality and personal self-expression – two values I hold very dear – because everyone deserves the freedom to explore their personality and discover their true selves,” says Rose. Can’t wait to see what this partnership means for upcoming Urban Decay collections 🤘🏻

Moonshot lands in Singapore

Beauty Gazette first brought your attention to the awesome Moonshot in April, and now it is here at Sephora Singapore stores. I love everything about this brand – especially the cool visuals – and their colour cosmetics. I’m hooked on their Cream Paint lip and cheek product (pigmented, easy to blend and long-lasting), UV Bouncer sunscreen (lightweight with a dewy finish), and Jelly Pot (pigmented gel-textured multi-purpose shadow and highlighter, as seen on model in the pic above) . This brand could very well be the next Nars or Shu Uemura from Korea. Moonshot is by YG Entertainment, which has brought you the big acts from Big Bang, 2NE1 to PSY. So make the connection: want to look like the fabulous K-pop star? You know where to grab the make-up.
