Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist

Make Up For Ever is one of my all-time favourite make-up labels. Its high-performance products always deliver.  They are made for well, stage performances, and women who need their cosmetics to last through the day. I haven’t found another brand that can really rival MUFE’s ULTRA HD range which was created for actors, news anchors, beauty bloggers, selfie-lovers so they can look good infront of ultra high definition cameras (which are four times that of full high definition). And its waterproof Aqua range that professional synchronised swimmers swear by? One of the best in the market. French luxury conglomerate Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) knew what it was doing when it decided to buy over the brand from French make-up pro Dany Sanz in 1999. Dany, who founded the brand in her basement in 1984, is still the creative director of the brand. Hence, the continuous stream of fantastic products. Make Up For Ever’s latest offering is a range of 46  Artist Rouge Lipsticks. Why are they special? According the press release, a few factors set …

What to expect from Fenty Beauty by Rihanna

It is inevitable. One of the biggest pop stars of her time, Rihanna will be launching her own make-up line in Fall 2017. More than just an award-winning musician, she is a fashion icon, model and trendsetter. In other words, she is a money-making machine. The Barbadian 28-year-old has already dabbled in cosmetics from time to time, with her popular limited edition lines with MAC, and fragrances. This time round, the real deal (literally) takes place with the LVMH-owned Kendo backing her up. Kendo is also responsible for the wildly popular Kat Von D beauty, and the pretty Marc Jacobs Beauty line. Get the deets on WWD. So what can you expect from the line? All you have to do is observe her make-up looks closely. The bold lip: dark, sexy plum/ burgundy/ wine. With the modern, completely matte finish. Always paired with on-point eyeliner and expertly blended soft neutral/ taupe shadow. Betting that these will definitely be part of her upcoming collection. Then, there’s the make-up that shows off her softer side. Nude lip, arched …

Sephora Singapore re-opens flagship store at Ion Orchard

When Sephora first threw open its doors at Ngee Ann City in Singapore in late 2008, it revolutionised the beauty retail landscape in the city. Department stores no longer dominated the beauty shopping scene, and a plethora of brands were introduced to the market. By the following year, the LVMH-owned Sephora went on the offensive and opened its then-largest store in Southeast Asia, a 1,200 sq m store in Ion Orchard. Today, there are 11 outlets of the multi-brand beauty superstore; from the swanky malls on the main shopping strips to the suburbs. Over the years, Sephora has kept up its game. It introduced new and exclusive brands every quarter, such as Urban Decay, NYX, Ciate, Butter London, For Beloved One, moonshot, Nudestix, and Living Proof, as well as limited edition sets that were only available at selected Sephora stores. By the middle of 2015, Sephora bought beauty e-commerce site Luxola to ease its transition in selling goods online in Southeast Asia, and launched Sephora.sg earlier this year. To accommodate the re-shuffling of floor space at …

Trending: Red eyeshadow

So Chanel will be launching its Le Rouge collection in Fall.  And the star of the collection that anyone who is anyone on Insta is raving about:  That red shadow palette in the corner there.  So red smokey eyes are the next big thing… Or not? The most talented beauty vloggers/ make up artists out there have already been smoking up their peepers in rich scarlet, burgundy, wine and deep red-bronze for the last couple of months. And now, Chanel is hoping to make red eyeshadow mainstream while being edgy (this clever blend is its fail-safe success formula for its fashion line). Kirsten Dunst rocks the red powders in Chanel’s campaign pictures. The look is kept matte for maximum fierce-ness.  And how does everyone else wear red shadow?   With pressed flitter on top, maybe? Bright, bold, and on the edge?  And how does it look on Asian eyes?  Gorgeous when smoked out and lined with wispy burgundy-brown liner. And with a bit of shine. Add bold brows. How would you wear red shadow?

A closer look at Urban Decay’s Alice Through The Looking Glass palette

Launching in stores July 6, this new palette is filled with 20 new shades. The bright colours are just as fantastical as the movie, and the packaging was made to match. Open up the box and you are greeted with a 3D butterfly; while the eyeshadows are tucked in a drawer. Another beautiful collector’s item from the brand. Because you can never have too many eyeshadows; even if you just want to keep them in the box so you can admire the shades. If you don’t own any eyeshadow palettes, this might be a good investment. Almost half of the shades are easy-to-wear nudes and browns and greys, which you can also blend with the out-there pinks and oranges for a bolder look. But judging by the tonality of the colours, this palette would be most suitable for those with warmer skin tones. Picture source: Urban Decay

Boys and their makeup

If you are a beauty junkie hooked on IG, you wouldn’t miss the uber popular pretty boys up on IG right now. Social media is a wonderful thing. It lets individuals living on the margins to literally shine (and sparkle) on their own terms. These are the gender-fluid makeup artists who are so good at what they do, and so beautiful. Staring at the IG pics of these exquisite creatures is a guilty pleasure of ours. We are definitely not the only ones; the top boys have hundreds and thousands (or even millions) of IG followers. Sure, their extreme (but beautifully-blended) make-up is better suited for drag queens (because they are). But those perfectly-arched brows, plump lips, over-the-top lashes and fleeky eyeliner are #perfection on those androgynous beauties. And guess what? These pretty boys are totally kickstarting beauty trends with their choice of bold makeup colours. Pink brows, anyone? Here are three of The Beauty Gazette’s fave gender-bender beauty junkies.  Jeffree Star Sebastien Miss Fame

No makeup rules: Rainbow-coloured highlighter is trending

So. You’ve seen the black, blue, green, grey lipsticks. As well as the red, and peachy-pink eyeshadows, maroon eyeliner, blue mascara. They’re no longer considered shocking or out of the norm at a time when makeup junkies are experimenting with colours like crazy.  (Social media which lets just about anyone showcase their crazy face of makeup and garner likes, is definitely responsible for the trend.) Now, rainbow-coloured highlighter is driving this “no makeup rules” beauty trend to another level.  See for yourself: I love Jeffree Star for his personality and amazing makeup formula (his liquid lipsticks are really something else). And when he decided to roadtest the Bitter Lace Beauty rainbow highlighter (sold on Etsy) trend on his YouTube channel, he got a million views in two days.  Others wearing the rainbow cheek: Cover photo: Instagram/ @jkissamakeup I love makeup but I would never wear this. Because erm, it looks like a faded bruise to me. But I have a hunch that coloured highlighters that are beyond your regular gold, bronze, pinks and silvers, will …

#Kfever: Laneige makeup on Descendants of The Sun

It’s happening again. The new K drama Descendants of The Sun has everyone’s eyes strained from watching too much TV.  According to news reports, Descendants has been played more than 670 million times on Chinese video site iQiyi. This new K drama is clearly on its way to surpassing the popularity of the red-hot drama of yester-year, My Love From The Stars. The winning formula is there, as usual.  Man and woman meet.  Man and woman fall in love. Man and woman pretend to not be in love with each other. Man and woman argue. Man and woman fall out. Man and woman meet again in a strange land. The story continues. Add to the mix a hunky baby-faced South Korean actor (this time round, it’s Song Joong-ki), and Kimchi Land’s fave actress (Song Hye Gyo).    Ms Song happens to be the face of Laneige, the flagship label of K Beauty superpower Amorepacific.  And so naturally, you get special makeup appearances 💄💄💄  While prepping for her first date, the female lead whips out …   …

When K-Pop meets J-Beauty: KYE x Shu Uemura for Spring 2016

Shu Uemura’s collaborations are always exciting.  The Japanese brand has covered the spectrum with artists (Murakami, Yaz Bukey), fashion designers (Karl Lagerfeld, Maison Kitsune), and even a filmmaker (Wong Kar Wai). It keeps the brand looking fresh and the products covetable. Now, the latest spring 2016 collab is with the hip Korean-American artist Kathleen Kye. The Central St Martins graduate is also a fashion designer whose high street wear is purportedly in-demand by the K-pop stars. This limited edition line is covered with cute cartoons illustrated by Kye. All apparently symbolize Korean youth culture.    In the collection, the most obvious K-Beauty item is the blush cushion compact, available in pink and peach.                   How to get theJ-Beauty + K-pop look:     KYE for Shu Uemura will be launched exclusively in Sephora Ion from April 14; and in Shu Uemura Boutiques from May 1.    Pictures and graphics: Shu Uemura
