Best Sunscreens To Buy

Summer or autumn, pandemic or peace times, the one skincare item that you should always have in your beauty routine is suncare. If like me, you love hanging out on a sunny balcony, a bright spot at an outdoor cafe, or stepping out for a bike ride to unwind, never forget to slather on the sunscreen to slow down skin ageing. Here are my favourite sunscreens that I reach out for on a daily basis. They all have a few things in common: Non-sticky finish Feel lightweight on skin Have high broad spectrum protection Contain added skincare benefits (moisturising agents, anti-pollution ingredients, etc. Multi-purpose (provide skin-perfecting illusion) Work brilliantly as a make-up primer (just layer under foundation) I’ve added hyperlinks to the list so you can go straight and buy them (no affiliation, btw).

YSL Beaute Le Encre De Peau Cushion 2020

French beauty brand YSL Beaute’s takes the definition of the luxe beauty accesory to a whole other level with its new cushion foundation. The Le Encre De Peau Cushion Foundation is emblazoned with the signature metallic YSL logo set on a buttery soft black leather chevron base. It’d look perfect right next to the luxury label’s iconic leather bags and heels. The formula of this cushion foundation has also been reformulated for a brightening matte finish that is lightweight for buildable longlasting coverage. Available in 8 shades, at S$102 per piece.

YSL Beauty Hearts & Arrows Collection

There’s something about getting your hands on makeup with pretty packaging. Even better if the beauty items are classics that belong in your regular routine, so you get maximum mileage out of the limited edition collection. (That is, if you bear to use them instead of storing them away carefully.) YSL Beauty’s seasonal range is a case in point. This February, its Heart & Arrows collection will literally make your heart palpitate a little faster. Sparkly hearts embellish the iconic Touche Eclat pen, while the Rouge Volupte Shine is printed with bold scarlet ones.

YSL Beauty Touche Eclat All-In-One-Glow Foundation

In a market where products are rejuvenated every couple of years to keep up with consumers’ fickle tastes, the formula of the classic YSL Beauty’s Touche Eclat has not been revamped for years, apparently. And for good reason. The sleek highlighter click-pen conceals dark circles and dusky areas of the face (corners of the mouth, sides of the nose) seamlessly. And it adds a glow to the cheekbones, cupid’s bow, décolleté, and anywhere else you want the light to hit. Now, YSL Beauty has bottled the soft candle-lit glow you get from the Touche Eclat pen, into a tube of foundation. So you get a soft iridescence to the skin, and light to medium coverage with this light and hydrating easy-to-blend gel-cream textured All-In-One-Glow Foundation.

YSL Beaute Mon Paris Couture Highlighter

To complement its popular Mon Paris floral-fruity fresh fragrance, YSL Beaute has launched a prettily embossed highlighter palette. In a translucent pink shade with subtle and sophisticated shimmer, the collectors’ item retails at S$105 (with a mini Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick, mini Mascara Vinyl Couture, and mini Mon Paris Couture 7.5ml). Exclusively available at Tangs, Tang Plaza Singapore.

The new YSL Beaute classics: Encre De Peau Le Cushion and Couture Palette

Yves Saint Laurent’s beauty range has long been a staple in the beauty arsenal of glamorous stars and their makeup artists. The Touché Eclat pen is a classic highlighter/ concealer that hides flaws while accentuating the contours of the face with a natural-looking finish. Many beauty gurus swear by the Top Secrets Instant Moisture Glow primer; and the Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks are deliciously, decadently, sexy. YSL Beaute does not try too hard with its makeup range, just quality products that work for timeless, classic beauty. No crazy neon colours, highlighters that beam to the moon, or other fads. Our new YSL Beaute favourites attest to this. The Encre de Peau Le Cushion (the new version is emblazoned with the iconic YSL logo) gives skin a soft satin-matte finish, with lightweight and build-able coverage. This formula is unlike the dewy high-shine texture of most cushions that really only works on those with already flawless skin. Another must-have from the brand: the Couture Variation Palette with 10 complementary shades so you can create a variety of …

TBG Makeup Picks 2017

As 2017 draws to an end, The Beauty Gazette looks back at the makeup launches that made our hearts flutter and emptied our purses. Click on the links for the deets. In 2017, @Badgalriri (popstar Rihanna for the uninitiated) launched her makeup collection after toying with the idea for years after the limited edition pieces she created with M.A.C in 2013. The on-trend Millennial-pink, and for-every-skin-tone marketing strategy hit the jackpot, and blew every other new masstige makeup brand launch this year out of the water. A high protection tinted suncream that evens out the skin tone with a porcelain finish, and glow. Wear it on its own or as a foundation primer. Smooth, blendable texture; good pigment, beautiful shades that all match in one palette. Not surprising that this is always sold out. This luxurious cushion gives skin a lovely soft-matte glow. It has a unique liquid-to-powder texture for a satiny, lightweight finish. Because who doesn’t love Tom Ford’s decadently luxurious lipsticks? These are sheer, but still sexy, moisturising, dreamily smooth to apply, and …

Tatouage Couture Matte Stain by Yves Saint Laurent Beaute

Yves Saint Laurent Beaute has always been at the forefront of the liquid lipstick game. Some six years ago, when it launched its Rouge Pur Couture Vernis a Levres, it blew so many of its competitors out of the water. The lightweight texture of the liquid lipstick gave lips a punchy colour with a Ferrari-finish shine. Now, it is set to keep lipstick junkies’ pulse racing with the new Tatouage Couture Matte Stain. As lightweight as the Vernis a Levre, with that fresh watery feeling on the lips, the Tatouage formula dries down on the lips with a pretty pop of colour and a trendy satin-matte finish. Clearly inspired by the permamence of tattoos, the Tatouage range is long-lasting (but not through oily food). Just one dip and one coat is enough for an smooth and even coat of beautiful colour. The spatula-shaped applicator – stamped with a tiny YSL logo, no less, for that luxe factor – makes precise strokes a breeze. Watch this for a snapshot of how this lippie performs. TBG’s picks: No.16, …

YSL Beauty Rouge Pur Couture The Mats

These new Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks by YSL Beaute are saturated in colour. Intensely pigmented in a coat or two, they have a perfectly matte finish, a texture that few solid lipsticks can provide. So if you have drier lips, best to exfoliate and apply balm before application. The Mats are also super long-wearing and leaves a strong lip stain behind. I applied the lipstick once in the morning and touched up once more after lunch. It remained perfectly in place for the rest of the day. The colours are also bold and beautiful, the kind that will make up for an otherwise bare face.  TBG picks: 222 a burgundy red 219 a juicy bright red 207 a tangerine coral 221 a bright fuchsia pink

YSL Beaute Dazzling Lights Holiday 2017

‘Cause baby you’re a firework! For Christmas, YSL Beaute wants you to remember that you’re a colourful explosion of sexiness, glamour and glitz. This limited edition range comes embossed with silver and pink glittery fireworks on a Holiday face palette, Touche Eclat Pen, and Rouge Pur Couture lippies. A similar design is carved into the lipstick bullets, making them fancy collectibles. The face palette shades are subtle and wearable with a hint of metallic shine and glitter, perfectly complemented by the vibrant and bold lipstick shades. 😍😍😍
