Popular with Hollywood celebrities, Dr Barbara Sturm is a German doctor who turned her expertise in orthopaedics into innovative solutions for an aesthetic practice and skincare line.
She is known for her MC1 “blood cream”, for which a trip to her clinic is necessary.
Fortunately, Dr Sturm also has a superb skincare line that is now available on Net-A-Porter.
When we met over lunch last week for a tete a tete, she urged me to try only her products for a week, just to see what a difference it would make to my skin.
And I’m glad I did.
The made-in-Germany line is relatively simple, with all the basics to keep the skin healthy.
The Eye Cream is a lightweight creme containing macadamia seed oil, antioxidant-rich purslane ferment extract, glycerin, radish root ferment. It is absorbed easily and immediately plumps up the skin; and leaving it so the entire day. The skin on my undereye area gets crepe-y and dry extremely easily, so I am pretty impressed with this eye cream.
The Hyaluronic Serum is another winner. With a texture like nectar, it quenches the skin immediately and thoroughly. It is lightweight enough to be used around the eyes as well. The formula is concocted with short- and long-chain hyaluronic acid; the former penetrates the skin and helps it to regenerate, while the latter smoothens the appearance of fine lines. It would also serve well as a lightweight make-up base.
The Face Cream is soothing and moisturising with shea butter, corn germ oil, purslane extract, and squalane. Everything sinks into the skin, so it stays supple; not greasy.
The Sun Drops offers SPF 50. It is relatively thick but blends well and do not leave a white cast on the skin. This chemical sunscreen blocks both UVA and UVB rays.
The Face Mask is a treat for tired and dehydrated skin. Cool to the touch, it is blended with aloe vera, chamomile, kaolin clay, and purslane ferment extract.
All formulas are free of parabens, mineral oils, and synthetic fragrances.
I felt the difference in my skin after one use; and after one week, the results were clear.
My skin was thoroughly moisturised all day (patchy dryness and flakiness used to be a problem); the eye area looks supple and youthful; pores less clogged and finer; skin more even in tone.
So much so that I decided that for as long as I’m on this skincare routine, I don’t need to wear foundation because there aren’t really any flaws to hide, and I want to show my skin off.
