TBG Interview: Sabrina Tan, founder, Skin Inc

In September, Skin Inc launched its new concept store at Scotts Square in Singapore to cater to women who need flash facials for their jam-packed days, and a relaxing pampering session on their days-off.

The store also carries a full range of the brand’s products, from its signature serums to the best-selling masks, and nifty beauty devices.

Skin Inc is currently available in 100 cities in Asia, Europe and USA (including Sephora) and online retail channels (Sephora, BeautyBay, Zalora). Next year, the Chinese market is on its cards.

Skin Inc’s founder Sabrina Tan, shares why the new concept store is absolutely necessary for the brand’s expansion, and other insights on the brand; with The Beauty Gazette.

Why did you decide to open the new Facial In A Flash Skin Bar?

We live in a fast-paced era, where we’re all busy, have little time for almost everything; and when it comes to taking care of ourselves, we literally have no time. But, we want it all. So, I decided to solve this issue that many face with a revolutionary concept – the Facial In A Flash Skin Bar.

We first introduced this concept in America, then in Europe. Very quickly, it gained the attention and approval of busy urbanites. With our Facial In A Flash concept, paired with the use of beauty devices, we offer fast, fuss-free and customized treatments with instantaneous results in just 20 minutes.

It has been nine years since Skin Inc was founded. How do you keep the brand relevant to consumers?

We were born digital. Being at the forefront of technology has helped us to become a global leader in customised skincare.

Our Skin Identity Check page, allows us to remotely diagnose customers’ skin concerns accurately, even without a beauty advisor by their side. This also means we can even reach out to customers who are not physically close to Skin Inc’s store locations.  This differentiates us from the rest.

Skin Inc’s customisation and one-size-fits-one philisophy is a game-changer.

Also, we have always advocated digital and social media since Day one, and it has enabled us to pick up on trends before they become mainstream. We are very pro-active on social media; we always listen to what our customers say about us through the #iloveskininc hashtag. And we make it a point to take all their feedback into consideration, even when we are developing a new product.

We love social media beauty influencers too. Top names like Aimee Song, Michelle Phan, and Chiara Ferragni have an affinity with our brand. Their authentic comments about our products resonate with their followers.

What are some of Skin Inc’s latest products?

We have just launched our 10th serum, the Vitamin B3+. That means consumers now have  120 serum cocktail combinations to choose from, based on their skin’s unique needs.

This VitaminB3+ serum is made with potent and the clinically-proven ingredient Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), and enriched with Hyaluronic Acid and Panthenol. It keeps your skin in check; to help reduce blemishes, breakouts, a rough texture, enlarged pores, oily and inflamed skin. As with all of our serums, you can use on its own, or combine it with up to two other Skin Inc serums.

Which are the current bestsellers?

Our signature fuss-free 3 step regime consists of Prep-Nourish-Seal routine. It includes the Pure Revival Peel, a customised My Daily Dose Serum and the Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask.

Our Optimizer Voyage Tri-Light device – which combines the power of colored LED Chromotherapy and Low Frequency Stimulation to improve the condition of the skin – has sold out several times. The LED Chromotherapy penetrates deep into your skin to activate the light receptors in your skin cells, while Low Frequency Stimulation gently regenerates skin cells, helping them increase their metabolism, blood and lymphatic circulation; thus enhancing the penetration of active ingredients in skincare products.

What is your own skincare routine like?

I can’t live without my Skin Inc custom serum doses and the Optimizer Voyage Tri-Light. My Daily Dose serum cocktail is concocted for my sensitive, eczema-prone and extremely dry skin. I need it to heal the barriers of my skin. I also like to mix the serum with the Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask or Pure Serum Mist. Just one or two drops mixed with water-based produces good results. The Optimizer Voyage Tri-Light is the perfect tool to help my products penetrate better into the skin. Also, if you moisten your Beauty Blender sponge with the Pure Serum Mist when applying foundation, you get dewy-looking and glowing skin.

How important is corporate social responsibility to you?

I believe in the value of giving back to society and try to carry the flag to this end. Personally I act as an advisor to multiple women entrepreneurship and leadership initiatives by the Singapore government (CFE, Committee on the Future Economy) and non-profit organisations. I am also the co-founder for Galboss Asia Symposium that aims to enable, empower and elevate women to take risks and chase their dreams.

This Christmas at Skin Inc, we will be partnering World Vision International on their child sponsorship programme. We will support 100 underprivileged girls’ education for a year. We will be tracking their progress in school, health, and participation in their communities, as well as meet them to participate in hands-on activities together.

I’m excited to be a part of this meaningful collaboration.
