TBG Makeup Picks 2017

As 2017 draws to an end, The Beauty Gazette looks back at the makeup launches that made our hearts flutter and emptied our purses. Click on the links for the deets. In 2017, @Badgalriri (popstar Rihanna for the uninitiated) launched her makeup collection after toying with the idea for years after the limited edition pieces she created with M.A.C in 2013. The on-trend Millennial-pink, and for-every-skin-tone marketing strategy hit the jackpot, and blew every other new masstige makeup brand launch this year out of the water. A high protection tinted suncream that evens out the skin tone with a porcelain finish, and glow. Wear it on its own or as a foundation primer. Smooth, blendable texture; good pigment, beautiful shades that all match in one palette. Not surprising that this is always sold out. This luxurious cushion gives skin a lovely soft-matte glow. It has a unique liquid-to-powder texture for a satiny, lightweight finish. Because who doesn’t love Tom Ford’s decadently luxurious lipsticks? These are sheer, but still sexy, moisturising, dreamily smooth to apply, and …

Tom Ford Boys and Girls lipsticks

And they’re here. Tom Ford’s annual limited edition Lips & Boys extravaganza has been kicked up a notch with a collection of 50 Girls shades. Of course, they are inspired by his favourite girls such as Isamaya, Isla, Naomi and Scarlett. These shades are less pigmented than the ones in the Boys range. They are more sheer and translucent for everyday looks. Some can even be worn as a topper for a metallic sheen. Like the translucent Lily, sheer blue Isamaya, light purple Violet and bronze Amber; which lend the lips a luxurious finish. If you want shades that are brighter, go for the coral Isla, orange-red Scarlett, and bright red Naomi. These mini-sized lippies are always sold out quickly, because apart from the fab shades, the formula is moisturising, lustrous, and long-lasting. Tom Ford Beauty’s new space at Robinsons Raffles City

The new and improved beauty floor of Robinsons Raffles City Singapore is giving the one at Tangs Orchard a run for its money.  The Robinsons store at City Hall has always been a crowd-puller due to its close proximity to the MRT station, and a rather good mix of F&B and retail tenants in the rest of the Raffles City Shopping Centre.  Now, the new Tom Ford Beauty counter at Robinsons Raffles City adds swank and class to the department store’s recently-expanded beauty floor. So you have one more option – apart from  Tom Ford Beauty at Tangs Orchard, and the Tom Ford flagship boutique at Marina Bay Sands – when you desperately need to stock up on the Private Blend juices and delectable lipsticks.

Tom Ford Winter Soleil Eye and Cheek Palette

If you want to indulge in a single handy palette to get you through the year-end holidays and  the new year, this Limited Edition Tom Ford one is it. With its coral-pink blush (no glitter or metallic flecks for the grown woman) and complementary light pink highlighter, this palette ($250) best suits those with fair to tanned skin tones. In particular, I am in love with the eyeshadow quartet (like I do with all the other TF shadows) because they have the right amount of matte, sparkle, and pigment for a multi-dimensional smokey make-up look. The shades are built on soft and sexy brown shades, which are a lot less harsh and in-your-face than black and grey shadows. All you need is a kohl liner, mascara, and a matte bronzer to complete Tom Ford’s iconic goddess aesthetic.

Tom Ford Velvet Orchid collection

I love the idea of a make-up extension line that is inspired by a perfume. There is a cohesiveness in the story line. And if make-up were part of the outfit that a woman slips on before a night out, the fragrance completes it. Tom Ford’s Velvet Orchid EDP was launched in 2014, to complement the house’s iconic Black Orchid EDP.   How the brand describes the scent: “An oriental floral that evolves the carnal grandeur and seductive power of the iconic Tom Ford Black Orchid into an uber-feminine fragrance lavished with notes of cool citrus, dramatic petals, suede accord, and vanilla. Rich, spicy, and intensely floral, it evokes a warm exotic garden. Notes: Orange Blossom, Hyacinth, Jonquil, Cattleya Leopoldii Orchid, Suede Accord, Vanilla Tincture. Lavish. Dramatic. Seductive.” What it smells like to me: Rich and sexy, sweet and musky; suede, relatively intense, warm and womanly. Like the perfume, the new make-up from the Velvet Orchid collection is encased in luxe and hefty, gold and purple packaging. The Velvet Bloom blush is a light pink mauve …

Tom Ford Spring 2016 collection

Tom Ford’s makeup collection always makes my heart beat faster.  Ford’s glamourous image and branding, the sleek packaging, the innovative formulas, and the intense colours all make up a winning formula. This latest spring collection is a hit with me, especially with the new Patent Finish Lip Color. A combination of an intense lip stain and gloss, the lightweight liquid lipstick is dispensed through a click-pen velvet-tipped applicator for precision. Despite the formula’s viscous consistency, it is comfortable on the lips with no sticky afterfeel. The liquid lipstick is also relatively long-lasting and stains the pout.     Available in eight shades of red and pink.  The Cream Eyeshadow is smooth and silky, and offers sheer, buildable coverage with a fine iridescent, metallic finish. Perfect as a powder shadow base for longer-lasting eye make-up, and for lining the eyes lightly.     Ford’s Eye Colour Quads are my all-time favourites. The pigmented colours and textures (matte, metallic, glittery, iridescent), all complement each other well for interesting and dimensional eye make-up.  Disco Dust, one of the latest palettes, …
