Cosme Decorte AQ MW Eye Glow Gem, summer makeup, and The Animal Project

It is easy to be a fan of beauty brands with a heart. Such as Cosme Decorte which has tied up with social enterprise The Animal Project which supports special artists. Spend a minimum of $200 at Decorte Singapore counters (including two AQ MW Eye Glow Gem eyeshadows), and you can get your hands on a pink flamingo emblazoned pouch designed by artist Tay Jun-Yi. The pouch comes with a four-piece skincare set and a $20 Decorte voucher. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Autistic Association Singapore. Now on to the new AQ MW Eye Glow Gem ($35 each): the moussey-creamy eyeshadows are awesome. Lightweight, easy to blend, long-lasting and best applied on lids with fingertips, this non-greasy range of eyeshadows are distinctly Japanese: the shades are translucent, but builds up nicely for a fine wash of colour, subtle shimmer and beautiful payoff. The pigment and fine glitter is not too in-your-face, so you don’t have to worry about making mistakes. Perfect for accents or worn on its own for everyday makeup. And what’s …

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette

The latest extension of the best-selling Naked range is a 12-shade teracotta brick-themed shadow palette. The product is as sexy as its name: Naked Heat 🔥🔥🔥 The on-point warm colours – ranging from red earth, burnt orange, to burgundy – are all super flattering on Asian and darker skin tones. The complementary shades are pigmented but builda-ble and easy to blend. So you can get soft smokey looks easily, even for beginners. You just need your regular trusty eyeshadow tools. I often rely on around three to four brushes for the different corners of the eyes to complete a look. The Naked Heat range comes with complementary 24/7 Glide On liners and Vice lipstick. I like the pink-burgundy Torch, and the pink beige nude Fuel lipstick. Click here for the swatches.

Decorte Whiteologist Bright Express Brightening Serum

The Japanese are known for their skin-brightening products for fairer, brighter, healthy- and translucent-looking skin (sorry, not really that bleached, beached whale kind-of-white that some might assume Chinese/ Korean/ Japanese women want to have). As summer comes round, and the sun’s rays are at its strongest, Kose launches its latest trio of skin-illuminating skincare products. The latest version of the Whiteologist Bright Express Brightening Serum contains a proprietary active complex (comprising of seaweed extract, Japanese honeysuckle, saffron, mallow, wild thyme, glycerin, and kojic acid) that disperses melanin clusters. This helps to prevent melanin from becoming dark spots on the surface of the skin. This clear serum is very watery, so use it after an essence and before a more viscous serum. Perfect for layering of skincare. The serum now comes in a limited edition fancy silver 60ml bottle worth $260, and retailing at $330. Available at Cosme Decorate counters in Singapore. You can use all the skin-brightening serums you want but skin will not stay fair if you do not use a good sunscreen on …

Laneige Fresh Calming Morning Mask

Once again, Laneige proves that it is ahead of the beauty game. The brand launched its best-selling Water Sleeping Mask in 2002, so women too busy living their lives can indulge in a fuss-free leave-on mask.  This summer, it launches its new Fresh Calming hydrating range, featuring a “Morning Mask”. More than just another mask with a catchy moniker, the Morning Mask is a first with its texture and formula. Dispensed through a pump can, it is a relatively viscous mousse emulsion that envelops skin in a cushiony gel. It sinks into skin with a few minutes of massaging.  I was really impressed with the texture. Besides the dense foamy facial wash of Japanese brands, I’ve never tried anything else quite like this Morning Mask. Moisturising and soothing, it is a multi-tasking all-day mask and moisturiser that prepares skin for makeup. I also tried using this as a night mask, and it worked just as fine. The next morning, my skin looked clearer, and matte; signs that show it is balanced. The Fresh Calming Morning …

Beauty routine: What I would have told my younger self

Fresh out of school, I landed my first job at Singapore’s bestselling women’s magazine. I went on to carve out a journalism career in beauty, fashion and lifestyle for a decade. In other words, I have been lucky enough to be learning from beauty experts on skincare routines and the latest beauty trends since I was in my early 20s. Still, there are beauty regime mistakes I wish I had not committed when I was younger If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it: There is no need for laser treatments when you are in your 20s. Six years ago, I tried out an Intense Pulsed Light treatment on my neck and décolletage area to “even out the skin  tone, and firm it up”. But my skin was perfectly fine to begin with. So all the treatment left me with was skin that got weakened and easily irritated. Now, the skin on my neck and décolletage is still prone to a red rash whenever the weather gets too warm, or when I wear clothing that rubs against it. Never, …

Shaver of your dreams: Bolin Webb

It is one of life’s biggest mysteries. Most guys use shavers everyday. But so many of the handles are badly designed – plasticky, too light, slippery, weirdly angled – and the menfolk end up with a nick or two almost every morning. Set to do men’s faces right, Bolin Webb is an award-winning men’s grooming label famed for its ergonomic razor handles. Sleek and hefty, the handles are coated with elastomer skin on the underside; made for a firm grip, sharp turns, and a closer shave (hopefully, with zero bleeding).  To be used with the regular Gillette razors, the Bolin Webb handles come in a variety of luxe finishes, from chrome to 24-carat-gold. Now available at Maven, Takashimaya Department Store Level 3.

Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Ink Liner and Color Paint

Not for the faint-hearted and wimps, Make Up For Ever’s new eye make-up range is pigmented and made to last through stressful board meetings to sweaty gym sessions. The super long-wear Aqua XL range comprises of the Ink Liner liquid eyeliner and the Color Paint cream eyeshadows. The Ink Liner is a stiff sponge-tipped tapered applicator that is good for bold cat eye flicks, and graphic make-up looks. Each pump picks up enough liquid for a full wing-tip. Start each application from the thickest middle part of the cat eye flick as the applicator picks up quite a bit of liquid; leave the finer details to the end of the stroke. The Color Paint shadows make an awesome base for a super bold smokey eye. Just a teeny tiny bit of the cream shadow can be blended out with fingertips (or MUFE shader brush #226) to cover the entire eye socket area. Alternatively, apply with a stiff angle brush for bold coloured lines. Colour sets well and does not budge once dry. Both the Ink Liner …

Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil

A good melt-on-your-lips pout treatment product is a must-have in any beauty pouch.  And if nothing in the market seems to treat your flakey pout, all you have to do is this: – Drink enough water (cracked and dry lips are a sign of dehydration) – Exfoliate dead skin cells with a cotton wash cloth – Get your hands on the Clarins Instant Light Lip Oil.  Don’t let the idea of coating your lips in oil put you off. The Clarins Lip Oil is more like a gloss, minus the thick stickiness but with all the shine.
