Fenty Beauty Review

If you’re still undecided on Rihanna’s anticipated Fenty Beauty line, here’s what you need to know. The collection is inspired by her own needs. Rihanna’s camera-ready “Fenty Face” is a three-step routine: mattify, highlight, blot. So the line comprises of the Prof Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer (S$48), Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (S$50), Invisimatte Blotting Powder (S$44), and Paper (S$26) for shine-free skin. And there are at least 10 kick-ass highlighters in the line. The formulas are fuss-free. Lightweight, easy-to-blend, and buildable for everyday wear. Available in matte and shimmer textures, the Match Stix (S$37 each) range is creamy and multi-purpose for the lips, cheeks and eyes. And we love how the packaging for the Stix range is magnetic and click together for convenience. We like: Chilli Mango, Riddiic, Mocha, Trippin, Yard Lyfe, Rum. The Kilawatt Freestyle Highlighter/Duo range is also multi-purpose for the cheeks and eyes (S$50 each). Used as a highlighter, the Killawatt has a killa shine. As eyeshadow, the pigment is subtle enough for layering, but pack a punch when more strokes are added. Be …

Pat McGrath Labs Dark Star 006 UltraViolet Blue Review

“WARNING: UltraViolet Blue pigment can cause a temporary staining of the skin.” We have not come across any eyeshadows with a warning label, until the legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath‘s Dark Star 006 UltraViolet Blue. Then again, so many things about this set of eyeshadows are different. 1) The packaging: With the holographic bag and sequins as stuffing, it is a visual feast from the get-go. Perhaps this is eyeshadow the aliens would wear? 2) The pigment: The star of this set is obviously the UltraViolet Blue shadow. This is pure metallic sparkling blue pigment. Full-on colour in one swipe with finger or brush. Use with eye makeup primer to prevent staining of the skin, says the instructions. The others; Astral White, Mercury and Dark Matter pigments, do not disappoint. These sparkly metallic colours come through easily. We have never seen a darker black eyeshadow 👌🏻. Buildable and blendable. The lighter colours are beautiful as highlights or all over the lids. And all with minimal fallout, so it does not get messy during application. The …

Laneige Ideal Shadow Quad and Blush Duo

Laneige has proven that while it may be a K Beauty brand that (like most Korean beauty exports) focuses more on its skincare options, it can hold its own with colour cosmetics too. The new Laneige Ideal Shadow Quad ($42 each) is now available in 10 palettes, from a risque red-themed quartet named No.10 Red Fox Fur, and pretty masala-hued No.7 Rosebay Garden to handy matte neutrals like No.6 Soft Powder. The powders are fine and smooth, easy to blend and layer with moderate pigment power; just the way most Asian women prefer it. The Laneige Ideal Blush Duo collection ($39 each) also features a cute peach and mint blush palette, literally named No.2 Peach Mint. The mint shade looks translucent on skin, brightens and mattifies. No.4 California Coral is a pretty peachy duo; while the No.6 Wood Blossom is perfect for subtle contouring (again, subtlety is always key for Laneige). Watch this clip for a closer look of TBG’s picks from the lot.

Cle de Peau Beaute Rouge a Lèvres Lipstick

The new Cle de Peau Beaute Rouge a Levre lipsticks come with a new lipstick bullet shaped like a wave, so that it hugs the lips closely for intense and precise application. Currently the top picks in our lipstick collection, these are moisturising and lightweight while offering opaque colour in one swipe. Relatively long-lasting, the formula has a high-shine finish. Because the texture is so creamy, it does not pull or drag on lips during application so you get perfectly-shaped lips every time. Available in 12 shades; The Beauty Gazette picks are: No.7 Dragon Red, a true blue red (watch the swatch); No.9 Silk Thread, a dusky rose pink; as well as No.10 Chinoiserie, a light coral pink.

Pat McGrath Labs now available on Net-a-Porter

The magical coveted makeup potions by the queen of editorial and backstage makeup Pat McGrath are now available on luxury e-tailer Net-a-Porter. In 2015, McGrath announced the launch of her first product, a pot of liquid gold pigment Gold 001 through Instagram where she has more than a million followers. She has since gone on to launch at least three other product ranges from seductive molten metallic eyeshadow to sparkly glittering lip kits in limited releases. These come with mixing spatulas and solutions that turn the makeup weather-proof; all with that exquisite high-fashion finish seen in McGrath’s work in the Vogue pages and on runways. In a recent FT article, she declared: “My goal is to create make-up that’s so addictive, once someone lays eyes on it they get so panicked it might sell out they run out of their house in just a trench coat to get their hands on it. “And for me, it’s about glitter, sparkle and something completely new”. And indeed, beauty junkies mesmerised by images of the makeup products on McGrath’s …

Laneige BB Cushion Crystal Edition with Xirius Swarovski Crystals

So many years ago, the Laneige BB Cushion was the first ever cushion I fell for. It was easy to use and so convenient for touch-ups on-the-go, and gave my skin a beautiful glow. Now, I’m falling for it all over again, especially when it is blinged-up with super sparkly Swarovski Crystals. Watch the video below and check it out yourself. Available in the Whitening and Pore Control versions, that offer light to medium coverage, a cooling sensation, and give skin a healthy glow. $59 each, and in three shades. Buy it from Laneige boutiques.

Kose Esprique Point Makeup

If you only wear makeup to gently accentuate your features, then make your way to the Kose counters. Subtlety is the name of the game there. The lightweight base makeup range provides light to medium coverage, is mattifying, and relatively long-lasting. Perfect for those who do not like any shine; just that velvety matte finish of baby skin. The Kose Esprique Pure Skin Pact UV is a fine powder compact with SPF26/PA+; while the  CC Base hides pores and offers SPF50+ PA+++ protection. Cover up spots and dark circles with the creamy Fit Up Concealer UV that comes in a convenient twist stick; high coverage, long-lasting, with SPF30/PA+++. The brand also offers two options for fuller-brows that will make you look younger. If you want precise strokes, try the Kose Esprique W Eyebrow Liquid & Powder. The handy pen offers a stiff brush liquid liner on one end, and a spoolie brush on the other. Pull on the opposite ends, and out pops a sponge applicator with powder tucked in the cap. Prefer brows that …

It is easy to be a fan of beauty brands with a heart. Such as Cosme Decorte which has tied up with social enterprise The Animal Project which supports special artists. Now on to the new AQ MW Eye Glow Gem ($35 each): the moussey-creamy eyeshadows are awesome. Lightweight, easy to blend, long-lasting and best applied on lids with fingertips, this non-greasy range of eyeshadows are distinctly Japanese: the shades are translucent, but builds up nicely for a fine wash of colour, subtle shimmer and beautiful payoff. The pigment and fine glitter is not too in-your-face, so you don’t have to worry about making mistakes. Perfect for accents or worn on its own for everyday makeup. And what’s …

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette

The latest extension of the best-selling Naked range is a 12-shade teracotta brick-themed shadow palette. The product is as sexy as its name: Naked Heat 🔥🔥🔥 The on-point warm colours – ranging from red earth, burnt orange, to burgundy – are all super flattering on Asian and darker skin tones. The complementary shades are pigmented but builda-ble and easy to blend. So you can get soft smokey looks easily, even for beginners. You just need your regular trusty eyeshadow tools. I often rely on around three to four brushes for the different corners of the eyes to complete a look. The Naked Heat range comes with complementary 24/7 Glide On liners and Vice lipstick. I like the pink-burgundy Torch, and the pink beige nude Fuel lipstick. Click here for the swatches.
