Crabtree & Evelyn’s new superfood-inspired handcare and bodycare

This whimsically-rustic lifestyle label has released its new range of products inspired by food, herbs, and spices. As always, Crabtree & Evelyn takes pride in its olfactory concoctions infused into the products, that are comforting and soothing on the senses. Clearly, this is why the brand is a mainstay in the bathrooms of those who turn bath time into a daily ritual for melting away the day’s stress.  And they always make such great gifts for every occasion you can think of (birthdays, Christmas, Mother’s Day, etc.). The new Lavender & Espresso line is scented with cypress, citron, patchouli, sandalwood and coffee bean oils. The Rosewater & Peppercorn range is also blended with bergamot, tonka bean, and patchouli extracts. While the Citron & Coriander collection contains lemon, honey and shea butter. The Pomegranate & Argan Oil line-up is blended with pistachio, ginger, grapeseed and argan oils.  Pear & Pink Magnolia products are sweet with frangipani, green ivy and teakwood. So many years ago, the Laneige BB Cushion was the first ever cushion I fell for. It was easy to use and so convenient for touch-ups on-the-go, and gave my skin a beautiful glow. Mamonde opens first counter in Singapore at Tangs VivoCity

Determined to expand its foothold in Singapore, Mamonde has opened its first physical retail presence in the city at Tangs VivoCity. It first launched its online store at Lazada in April. The K Beauty brand from the Amorepacific family is inspired by flowers, and so its visual merchandising is suitably rustic and romantic. With its beautiful spanish tiles and dark wooden shelves, the space is even more inviting for shoppers to check out their range of skincare and colour cosmetics. Watch this video for a 30-second virtual tour of the store.

Aesop Istros Aromatique Room Spray

To complete its lifestyle offerings – the handwash, Post-Poo Drops, Animal, aromatherapy oils – Aesop has released its new range of home sprays.  There are three to choose from, and the signature one is Istros.  Named after an ancient Greek port town, Istros is a pink pepper, lavender, mimosa, cedar, sandalwood and tobbacco concoction that is warm, inviting, inspiring, mind-clearing, and uplifting. This is one room spray that smells so good we’re tempted to spray it on our skin (not advisable though; spritz on clothes instead if you must). Made for the sophisticated office or home. The other options are Cythera (geranium, incense, patchouli, neroli, ambrette, myrrh); and Olous (galbanum, grapefruit, jasmine, bergamot, cardamom, cedar, incense). Available at Aesop stores.

Shopping: Eve and Boy in Bangkok, Siam Square

The beauty selection at drugstores of each city says alot about its women and their grooming habits.  Judging by what’s available on the shelves at chains such as Boots and Watsons, Bangkok is the place to stock up on mass, colour cosmetics.  Thai women (and men) love their bold eyeshadows, lipsticks and full coverage foundation.  And because the per capita gross domestic product in Thailand is about US$6,000; US$5 options are aplenty in Bangkok’s beauty stores. So beauty junkies can pretty much expect a wide range of reasonably priced, highly pigmented cosmetics in this land of fabulous drag queens. Eve & Boy, sort of a Sephora equivalent but with both mass and high-end options, is a must-visit if you are keen to find out what’s trending on the faces of Thai ladies. Accented with neon lights, Eve & Boy is located at Siam Square.  Besides the regular big-name brands such as MAC, Origins, L’Oreal, Estee Lauder, Clinique, NYX and Maybelline; there are plenty of K-Beauty options as well as smaller Thai and American labels.  These …

Shiseido The Ginza: Tokyo must-visit for beauty junkies

Japan’s most established beauty brand with a strong international presence, Shiseido, turns 145 years old next year. It boasts a rich history: Founded by a former head pharmacist of the Japanese Imperial Navy, Shiseido pioneered the use of skin-softening products with Eudermine lotion in 1897 (still a best-seller today); and skin-brightening concoctions with Peroxide Cucumber (Japan’s first skin-whitening product first launched in 1917). Besides its namesake label, Shiseido is also the parent company of at least 40 brands, including the premium Cle de Peau Beaute, Maquillage to drugstore labels Majolica Majorca, Anessa and Aqualabel. So if you are obsessed with beauty and happen to be in Tokyo, it would be worth your while to head to its flagship store, Shiseido The Ginza  (1F-3F, 7-8-10 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-0061; tel: 03-3571-7735; open 11am to 8pm everyday). Set aside at least three hours (or more if you want a pampering facial and spa session) to fully explore this building and Shiseido’s adjacent ones; more details on that below. Launched in 2011 to mark its 140th anniversary, the three-storey Shiseido The …
