Pikashu: Pokemon X Shu Uemura, the most coveted Xmas collection yet

Out of all the Holiday beauty collections, Shu Uemura always cones up tops for the surprises. This season, Shu gives die-hard Pokemon fans and its beauty junkie collectors a treat with a Pikachu-inspired collection. The cutesy theme could have fallen flat if not executed well; but Shu has managed to make the plump yellow cat/bunny hybrid cartoon character, stylish. We are loving the yellow and gold-themed shadow palette, as well as the gold lash curler with a Pika-Pika charm. The limited edition collection is available at Shu Uemura counters islandwide from Nov 1.

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence Limited Edition Festive Designs 2016

If you swear by SK-II’s Facial Treatment Essence, then its yearly limited edition designs will get you hyped. Another pretty addition to the dressing table, this year’s FTE is emblazoned with the ephemeral Japanese art of Suminagashi. An ancient marbling art form, Suminagashi translates to floating ink in English.  Surprisingly easy to create, and each pattern is different; so you can never re-create the exact same lines and curves because it is all left to chance. The masters drip bright paint onto a tray of water to create patterns; then lay a sheet of paper on top of the ink so it is”printed” on. Suminagashi is fitting for this year’s SK-II FTE festive theme. After all, the FTE was inspired by aged sake, which kept the brewers’ hands youthful-looking. My own experience with the FTE? I’ve used it for many years, and it never disappoints. It keeps my skin clearer and translucent-looking. So much so that whenever I stop using it, I actually see a difference in my skin tone and start to break out. …

Sarah Moon for Nars Holiday 2016

The best thing about Holiday collections: the beautiful limited edition sets. Like the Sarah Moon for Nars line, where ethereal images of beautifully made-up women adorn the boxes. A French fashion photographer, Moon is known for her somehow touching, out-of-focus, and translucent pictures that look like water colour paintings. She is also recognised for her work in the famous Pirelli calendar, and commissions by Chanel, Dior, Vogue and Comme des Garcons. Pictures: Sarah Moon And here’s how Francois Nars first met her, in his own words: WHEN DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER SARAH MOON AND HER WORK? I discovered Sarah’s work in the early ‘70s when she was doing quite a bit of editorial work for ELLE and Vogue. I never actually met her until we decided to work together though. It was really incredible to be able to do this collaboration and work with her for the rst time after all those years of admiration. HOW DID YOU PICK SARAH MOON AS YOUR NEXT COLLABORATOR, WHAT DREW YOU TO HER? I pick the people whom …

Aesop’s Holiday 2016 Gift Kits

Aesop’s gift sets are perfect for those who are into design, and quality honest-to-goodness no-frills skincare items. The kits are always beautifully packaged with an illustrated sleeve, and a re-usable toiletry box. This year’s sets – named Pursuits of Passion – are inspired by the naturalist illustrators of yore, and designed by Norwegian artist Bendik Kaltenborn. There are six to choose from, and my pick is The Ardent Illustrator, named after the 19th-century naturalist Genevieve Jones. An avid collector of birds’ nests and eggs, she also paints vivid images of her rare finds. Inspired by John James Audubon’s masterpiece The Birds of America, she published a first volume in 1879, but died from fever shortly. Due to popular demand, her family completed the series in 1886 with a two-volume Illustrations of the Nests and Eggs of Birds of Ohio. Inside The Ardent Illustrator set is a skincare trio of the signature items from the Parsley Seed range. The Parsley Seed Facial Cleanser (200ml) foams up easily to cleanse and gently exfoliate the skin; the Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Serum (100ml) …

Sneak peek: Urban Decay’s 2016 Holiday Collection

It is never too early to start planning for your Christmas shopping. Or just strategising on stocking up on the best value-for-money Christmas sets/ limited edition items. Here are The Beauty Gazette’s picks from Urban Decay’s Holiday Collection:   1) Liquid Moondust Eyeshadow The sparkliest eyeshadow around is now available in a liquid version. Available in eight shades. UD says: “Our innovative, lightweight formula feels cool and wears comfortably. Creamy to the touch, Liquid Moondust blends easily. After you apply it, you’ve got about 30 seconds to blend the colour out. And once it’s dry, Liquid Moondust won’t budge or crease.”     2) Naked Ultimate Basics Because you can never have too many neutral matte eyeshadows…Urban Decay’s Naked Palettes are the original ones that have you covered from barely-there eye contours to out-there smokey eye looks. (Before so many other brands hopped on the same make-up train and churned out their palettes that are also packed with neutral shades.) And that extra large mirror on this palette is literally another plus. UD says: “We …
